Stilwell

Stilwell was platted back in 1886. It was mostly farms at that time, but as Overland Park and Kansas City continue to expand, Stilwell is becoming more urban. Until recently, it might have been hard to place Stilwell on a map (ironic considering that it’s the birthplace of Garmin co-founder Gary Burrell). Stilwell has by no means become a big town, but the population has more than doubled in less than a decade, as many people are finding the town to be a great place to raise a family.

There’s still plenty of farmland, though, and a small town vibe that can be very refreshing after you get home from a long day in the city. The commute between Stilwell and Kansas City takes roughly 30 minutes, which makes it ideal for those who want all the advantages that a big city as to offer, yet enjoy the charms of small town living.

Stilwell is the perfect place for families who want to be able to catch a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium, or maybe spend the day shopping at the Plaza, and then make it home to escape the hustle and bustle of noisy city streets. Because while it’s great to have endless options for things to do, it’s nice to be able to have a nice, relaxing evening in your own quiet neighborhood.

There’s a strong sense of community in Stilwell. The cohesive neighborhoods are so important to the people of Stilwell that they have community initiatives designed to encourage neighborliness and a sense of belonging. Unlike most of the towns Ken works with, Stilwell doesn’t have a bunch of “Best Place to Live” trophies, but it’s simply a matter of time.
